On April 28, 2026, I published an article indicating that citizens were alleging that Marion County Road employees were stealing time. On May 10, I published another article indicating that Jeremiah Johnson, lead man of the road department correcting the issue that was alleged where certain road employees were clocking other employees in and out.
I requested pay stubs for these employees to check their clock-in and -out times as a sort of checks and balances to ensure that the road employees were paid correctly. There are three time periods in 2026 that I have been looking at as provided by Heather Wright, Clerk of the Marion County Manager’s office: (1) March 1 – March 14; (2) March 15 – March 28; and (3) March 29 – April 11.
I will be breaking these up by pay periods over the next three publications, but I did want to provide a summary of what I have calculated, whereby I used: (1) the time punch cards I was provided by Heather Wright; (2) payroll stubs provided by Heather Wright; and (3) an excel spreadsheet that I compiled to add the time for each employee as provided by the time card entries.
Anomalies Observed
March 1 – March 14
- Certain employees were overpaid by cumulative total of $39.92.
- Certain employees were shorted a cumulative total of $518.59.
March 15 – March 28
- Certain employees were overpaid a cumulative total of $26.78.
- Certain employees were shorted a cumulative total of $330.50.
March 29 – April 11
- Certain employees were overpaid a cumulative total of $42.47
- Certain employees were shorted a cumulative total of $609.83.
In sum, over 6 weeks, certain employees were overpaid $109.17 and certain employees were shorted $1458.92.
Questions that Need Answers
(1) Why were employees paid for extra OT they did not work?
(2) Why were certain employees shorted pay for OT they worked?
(3) Is the county personnel responsible for entering the time purposely adding or negating time to the employees?
(4) Is the county personnel responsible for entering the time for the employees inept?
Disclaimer: From what I can see on the time punch cards, the employees’ time has been entered correctly on the time punch cards, aside from any allegations of certain employees clocking in other employees who were not at work. At this time, I do not have any evidence to prove this allegation is true. Therefore, these errors must be on the part of the payroll employee who entered in the employees’ time and issued the checks.
I will be posting the time punch cards, pay stubs, and my excel spreadsheet in the coming publications for your review. Stay tuned.
